This One Is a Safety Issue
Most exterior cleaning is about appearance. Pool decks aren't. Algae on a wet deck is genuinely slippery, and a pool deck is wet by definition, usually with people walking on it barefoot.
It's the item homeowners most consistently underestimate. The deck doesn't look dangerous - it looks slightly dull - right up until someone goes down on it.
Why Pool Decks Grow Faster Than Anything Else
They get the worst combination in South Florida: constant moisture from splash-out, shade from screen enclosures and umbrellas, and foot traffic grinding organic matter into the surface. Add pool chemistry and you have close to ideal conditions for algae.
Travertine and Natural Stone - Read This Part
Travertine is everywhere on Miami pool decks, and it is softer and more porous than concrete. Aggressive pressure leaves permanent pitting and etching that no subsequent cleaning fixes. Once a travertine deck is etched, it stays etched.
It can be cleaned properly - with a surface cleaner at controlled low pressure, kept moving, never held in one place. The setting matters and so does the technique.
Chemistry matters just as much: acidic cleaners must never be used on travertine, marble, coral stone or limestone. They etch it chemically, which looks like a dull cloudy patch and is not recoverable. Plenty of contractors use a general-purpose acidic cleaner on everything. Ask.
If a contractor treats your travertine deck the same way they treat your concrete driveway, stop them.
Surfaces We Handle
Travertine, marble, coral and keystone - controlled low pressure, pH-neutral solution.
Pavers - cleaned then re-sanded.
Stamped and decorative concrete - reduced pressure to protect the color layer and sealer.
Poured concrete and lanais - full surface-cleaner treatment.
Screen enclosure frames - soft washed alongside, since they're right there and usually filthy.
How Often
Every 6 to 12 months. Shorter if the deck is screened, heavily shaded, or under trees. Natural stone also stains more readily than concrete, so letting a travertine deck go is more expensive to put right than letting concrete go.
Pricing
From $129, quoted flat once we know the size and surface. Most customers bundle the deck with a driveway clean in the same visit, which is cheaper than two trips. Send photos for an exact number.
